As a high school girl, Young-sim fells in love with a college student named Im Ji-wun. They promise to get married but Ji-wun gets diagnosed with a heart disease that is hard to fully cure. When her parents strongly object to the marriage, Ji-wun disappears. Young-sim marries Min-ho whom her parents introduce. When Young-sim gives birth to Ji-wun\'s son, trouble brews for her marriage. Eight years later, Young-shim meets Ji-wun again after seeing him give an interview on TV. Ji-wun is now a novelist and he has just published a book entitled, \'Lover.\' Min-ho tells Young-sim that he knows that Chang-sik isn\'t his son and that she\'s met with Ji-wun. As Min-ho asks her for a divorce, Young-sim is greatly shocked. Out of guilt, Ji-wun goes abroad.||오영심은 두 남매를 둔 가정주부다. 그녀는 결혼생활 8년동안 나름대로 행복했었다. 그런데 근래에 와서 남편 민호의 무단 외박이 잦아져 고민에 빠진다. 영심은 여고시절 임지운이란 대학생과 열애 끝에 순결까지 바쳤었다. 그리고 결혼까지 맹세했었다. 허나 양친의 강력한 반대에 부딪쳐 번뇌하게 된다. 반대의 이유는 지운이 치유되기 어려운 심장병 환자라는 것이다. 지운은 사랑하는 사람을 위해서라는 편지만 남기고 행방을 감춰버렸다. 영심은 번뇌 끝에 부모들이 중매한 민호와 결혼하게 된다. 하지만 문제가 파생된다. 첫아들 창식이 임지운의 자식이란 사실이다. 그 비밀은 영심 자신 밖에 모른다. 영심은 결혼생활 8년 만에 그 지운과 재회하게 된다. 민호는 창식이 자기 자식이 아니라는 사실을 벌써부터 알고 있었으며 지운과 재회하고 있다는 사실까지 알고 있다며 결별을 선언한다. 영심의 충격은 극치에 이른다. 지운은 자신의 출현이 영심의 가정에 파문을 일으키게 한 것이라고 자책하며 외국으로 떠나 버린다. 민호는 모든 것이 자기가 영심을 빼앗았기 때문에 일어난 사실이란 것을 뒤늦게 알게 되고 민호는 영심과 재회한다.
