Mid-level government official Seo\'s son, Jeong-ho and Minister-level official Kim\'s daughter Ja-ok are meeting each other in secret. When Ja-ok\'s father finds out, he grabs Jung-ho and castrates him. Kim then sends Ja-ok to the palace in an effort to gain power. Due to her incredible beauty, Ja-ok is selected as a royal concubine. However, King Myung-jong is wise to Kim\'s intentions so he doesn\'t even give Ja-ok a second look. Instead, the king takes Ja-ok\'s personal handmaiden, Gil-nyeo, to his bedchambers. Gil-nyeo becomes a court lady and treats Ja-ok harshly. In order to see Ja-ok, Jung-ho becomes a eunuch and enters the palace. Jung-ho finds Ja-ok and they have a midnight reunion. However, Jung-ho has skepticism about being a eunuch so he escapes with the help of Kwang-jin. With deep resolve, Ja-ok enters the royal bedchamber. The next day, there are only two corpses in the bedchamber.||교리의 아들인 서정호와 참판의 딸인 김자옥은 서로 정분을 나누는데 이를 안 자옥의 아버지 김참판은 정호를 잡아 들여 거세시키고, 자옥은 자신의 세도를 위해 억지로 궁중에 들여 보낸다. 자옥의 빼어난 미모로 인해 문정왕후의 눈길을 끌어 후궁으로 간택이 되나 명종은 김참판의 속셈을 알기에 자옥을 거들떠 보지도 않고 오히려 몸종인 길녀를 택해 침소에 들게 하고, 상궁이 된 길녀는 자옥에 대해 횡포가 심해진다. 자옥을 만나기위해 궁중 내시가 된 정호는 그녀를 찾다가 심야에 상봉을 하게 되나, 발각되어 고초를 겪는다. 정호는 내시 생활에 회의를 느낀 광진의 도움으로 궁을 벗어날 기회를 얻지만, 자옥에게 향하다 결국 화살을 맞고 숨진다. 한편 자옥은 굳은 결심 끝에 왕의 침전에 들고, 이튿날 두 사람의 시체가 발견된다.
